Jewellery Price Research: Asking Prices, Sales & Estimates

A price is only useful if you know what it measures. A live listing, an auction result and an estimate answer different questions.

Current asking price

This is what a seller is requesting now. It does not demonstrate that a buyer has paid that amount. The prices displayed in The Refashion’s catalogue are current asking prices, subject to the product page and checkout. They are not historical sales evidence.

Documented selling price

A completed-sale record can be more informative, but check the details. Record the sale date, currency, condition, whether the object was a single piece or pair, and whether the figure includes a buyer’s premium, shipping or taxes. A listing marked “sold” without a disclosed final amount does not verify its earlier asking price as the selling price.

Estimate

An estimate expresses an expectation or opinion. It is not a completed transaction or a guaranteed future value. Label it as an estimate and record who made it, when, and on what basis.

Build a useful comparison

  • Compare the same design where documented, rather than merely the same brand.
  • Record materials, dimensions, fitting and whether components have been replaced.
  • Separate verified period attribution from a seller’s broad “vintage” description.
  • Consider missing stones, plating wear, repair costs and included packaging.
  • Keep the original source link and the date you checked it.

Do not use one exceptional result as a promise of resale value. A small number of public comparisons may not support a reliable range. We have not published numerical market valuations here because unverified figures would imply more precision than the evidence supports.
